Orthotics (Greek: Ορθός, ortho, “to straighten” or “align”) is a specialty within the medical field concerned with the design, manufacture and application of orthoses. Anorthosis (plural: orthoses) is “an externally applied device used to modify the structural and functional characteristics of the neuromuscular and skeletal system”.

Foot orthoses comprise a custom made insert or footbed fitted into a shoe. Commonly referred to as “orthotics” these orthoses provide support for the foot by redistributing ground reaction forces as well as realigning foot joints while standing, walking or running.

A great body of information exists within the orthotic literature describing the sciences that might be used to aid people with foot problems as well as the impact “orthotics” can have on foot, knee, hip, and spine deformities.

They are used by everyone from athletes to the elderly to accommodate biomechanical deformities and a variety of soft tissue inflammatory conditions such as plantar fasciitis.

They may also be used in conjunction with properly fitted orthopaedic footwear in the prevention of foot ulcers in the at-risk diabetic foot.

Brent Amsbury started ski racing in 1979 at Stevens Pass as a USSA junior and continued racing in college at Western Washinton University.

In 1988 he started his own ski shop (World Cup Skier Service) in Bellevue,WA.

Brent currently tours the northern United States providing stance / alignment services, and gives lectures on the bio-mechanics of ski boots to PSIA groups from Big Sky, Montana to Buck Hill, Minnesota. He owns Park City Ski Boot in Park City, Utah and provides fitting services from entry level skiers to U.S. ski team members and coaches.
